About Evergreen Gardens at La Junta

Evergreen Gardens at La Junta sits on West Tenth Street in La Junta, seat of Otero County along the Arkansas River on Colorado's southeastern plains. With forty-nine apartments, it counts among the larger assisted living addresses found in this stretch of the state. Locally, people take notice of a monthly rate that opens near $2,500, well below what many Front Range communities charge for similar support, a figure that keeps assisted living affordable for families managing agricultural or fixed incomes.

Residents get help dressing, bathing, and staying on schedule with medication, tasks a staff here handles with particular attention during a newcomer's first weeks, especially when that resident has relocated from farther away. The building carries one care license, assisted living, and nothing past that: no memory care wing and no independent living apartments exist here. Most days move through shared meals, group activities, and conversation across the common areas, and relatives who've brought a parent here from out of town frequently mention how staff treated the move as their own responsibility instead of leaving the family to manage every detail.

Even with a resident count larger than many rural Colorado communities carry, Evergreen Gardens holds onto a personal, small-town feel. Evergreen Gardens works well for Otero County families wanting assisted living priced within reach of a fixed income, provided a resident's care needs stay inside what an assisted-living team can handle day to day. Families whose plans call for licensed nursing care or on-site emergency medical staff should confirm that scope beforehand, since Evergreen Gardens' license covers assisted living exclusively.

La Junta runs along the Arkansas River in the middle of Colorado's farm country, home to Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site and the Koshare Indian Museum, both draws for visitors curious about the region's frontier past. Weisbrod Memorial Hospital, the county hospital, sits a short trip from West Tenth Street, and City Market covers grocery needs for residents and visiting family. As one of Otero County's larger assisted living options, Evergreen Gardens keeps a parent close to the county seat instead of pushing a family toward Pueblo for care, all at a rate built around the realities of a farming-town budget.

Services

Staff help residents dress, bathe, and keep medication schedules on track, tasks that grow harder to manage alone with age, and they pay extra attention during a newcomer's first weeks after arriving from out of town. Evergreen Gardens holds a single care license, assisted living, so there's no memory care or independent living here.

Resident Experience

Shared meals, group activities, and easy conversation in the common areas carry most days here, and families who've brought a parent in from farther away often say staff took ownership of that adjustment instead of leaving relatives to manage it. Despite its size, the building keeps the feel of small-town Otero County.

I was there visiting my great grandparents and there were mice running through their living room. When my mother asked evergreen what they were going to do and they lady rolled her eyes and said “that’s what happens when you live in a valley..” for the price my grandparents pay…

Great facility with very caring administrators and staff. Very warm and comforting facility the moment you step inside the doors. Highly recommend this to anyone considering an assisted living home.

No medical care. If you are sick they won't even call 911. They call to and ask if they should call 911. It's so depressing to live there. Find another place!
