About Legacy Center
Cañon City's Bauer Lane neighborhood is home to Legacy Center, a 40-apartment assisted living community set apart from the town's Arkansas River tourist corridor in a quieter residential pocket of Fremont County. The community keeps its focus on assisted living, and it stands out locally for two things many nearby homes don't offer: Medicaid billing and short-term respite stays. Staff help residents through the daily routine of assisted living, including medication management, personal care, and mobility support, and Legacy Center bills Medicaid for residents who qualify rather than requiring private pay across the board.
The respite option lets a family bring a loved one in for a short stay, whether to cover a caregiver's trip or to test whether the community is the right long-term fit before committing. Visiting families note grounds that stay clean and well maintained through the seasons, a staff team that comes across as pretty nice day to day, and residents who seem genuinely happy in the community, with more than one visitor describing a great atmosphere among the people who live and work there.
A 40-apartment community that bills Medicaid and offers respite suits families balancing cost with flexibility, whether that means a resident moving in long-term or a shorter stay while a family sorts out next steps. Legacy Center's current scope stays to assisted living and respite, so families specifically wanting memory care or independent living apartments should confirm those needs with their senior advisor first.
Saint Thomas More Hospital is a short drive from Bauer Lane for anything beyond what the community provides day to day, and a handful of local restaurants along Main Street give visiting family an easy stop before or after a visit. Legacy Center runs as an assisted living community built around accessibility, pairing Medicaid billing with respite stays so families have more than one way to bring a loved one through its doors in Cañon City.

Please be very cautious allowing you family to live in this facility. Quite a bit of abuse from other resident to resident. Administration is very aware. The Canon City Police Department is also aware. Please call the state if you have any questions. Please do not let your loved…
Okay place but the food is so so at best. Grounds are clean and well maintained. Staff is pretty nice. Management is, well, like most managers everywhere.
The residents are awesome. I can't say much more other than that.
