How Assisted Living Works in Idaho
Assisted living in Idaho is provided by residential assisted living facilities, which the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, Division of Licensing and Certification, licenses and inspects under IDAPA 16.03.22. These buildings range from small homes to large communities. They provide a room or apartment, meals, supervision around the clock, and help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing and taking medications.
Assisted living is not a medical setting. Residents who need ongoing skilled nursing, such as complex wound care or daily injections given by a nurse, usually need a nursing facility instead, although home health or hospice agencies can visit an assisted living resident. Each facility must assess a new resident and write a care plan, and families should ask how that plan is reviewed when needs change.
